Installing TCP/IP without a NIC

Microsoft has included a loopback adapter that allows you to test TCP/IP without having a network card installed. To install the loopback adapter, do the following:

  1. Start the Control Panel (Start | Settings | Control Panel).
  2. Double-click on the Network icon.
  3. Click on the Adapters tab, click Add Select MS Loopback Adapter, and then click OK.
  4. Configure the TCP/IP parameters.
