Revisiting the UPS

Although most UPS devices come with their own software, it doesn't hurt to go back and look at the UPS icon in the Control Panel to remember some of the configuration options that are built into Windows NT. Just to jog your memory, here are some of the things you can configure for that essential component of your servers. You can:

  • Select the serial port for the UPS device.
  • Choose whether the UPS device will send a signal if the regular power supply fails.
  • Choose whether the UPS device will send a warning when battery power is low.
  • Choose whether the UPS service will send a signal telling the UPS device to turn off.
  • Specify a command file to be executed.
  • Notify the user of expected life and recharge time for the battery.
  • Select the timing for warning messages.
