Delete NTFS partitions

NTFS partitions can sometimes be tricky to get rid of. Usually an NTFS partition can be deleted using FDISK (you'd select Delete Non-DOS Partition, available under Delete Partition Or Logical DOS Drive); however, this won't work if the NTFS partition is in the extended partition.

You can delete an NTFS partition with Disk Administrator by selecting the partition and pressing [Delete] (as long as it's not the system/boot partition). But suppose you can't get NT up and running to get to the Disk Administrator - is there another way? Of course there is!

Simply boot from the three NT installation disks and follow the instructions below:

  1. Read the license agreement and press [F8].
  2. Select the NTFS partition you wish to delete.
  3. Press L to confirm.
  4. Press [F3] twice to exit the NT setup.

Don't have the three install disks? Run winnt /ox from your Windows NT CD, and it will make just the installation disks.
